1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions govern the provision of psychiatric services by The Perinatal Psychiatrist ("the Practice"). By booking an appointment or receiving treatment, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

2. About the Practice

The Practice provides private outpatient psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up consultations for adults. Services include perinatal psychiatry and general adult psychiatry.

The Practice does not provide emergency, crisis or inpatient services.

3. Booking Appointments

Appointments may be booked:

  • Online

  • By email

  • Through an authorised referrer or healthcare professional

Appointments are confirmed once payment has been received.

4. Consultation Fees

Current consultation fees are published on the Practice website and may be amended periodically.

Fees include:

  • The scheduled consultation.

  • A clinic letter to your GP (with your consent).

  • A prescription issued during the consultation where clinically appropriate.

Fees do not include:

  • Pharmacy dispensing charges.

  • Blood tests or investigations.

  • Medical reports or letters requested outside the consultation.

  • Completion of insurance or third-party forms.

  • Prescription requests between appointments where a clinical review is required.

5. Payment

Payment is required before your appointment unless another arrangement has been agreed in writing.

Accepted payment methods include:

  • Debit card

  • Credit card

  • Bank transfer

Outstanding balances must be settled before further appointments can be booked.

6. Cancellation and Missed Appointments

Appointments cancelled with 48 hours' notice (excluding weekends and bank holidays) will be refunded or rescheduled.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed without notice, will be charged in full.

Late arrival may result in a shorter consultation while the full consultation fee remains payable.

7. Prescribing

Medication is prescribed only where clinically appropriate.

Some medications require:

  • Blood pressure monitoring

  • Pulse monitoring

  • Blood tests

  • ECGs

  • Other investigations

Patients agree to undertake recommended monitoring where necessary.

Private prescription charges from pharmacies are separate from consultation fees.

8. Shared Care

Where appropriate, the psychiatrist may request that your GP enters into a Shared Care Agreement.

Acceptance of shared care is entirely at the discretion of your GP practice.

The Practice cannot guarantee that your GP will agree to prescribe medication recommended privately.

9. Communication

Routine administrative enquiries may be made by email.

Clinical advice outside scheduled appointments may require a booked consultation or incur an additional fee.

The Practice aims to respond to routine correspondence within a reasonable timeframe but cannot guarantee same-day responses.

10. Confidentiality

Your personal information will be handled in accordance with UK data protection legislation.

Information will only be shared with your consent unless:

  • required by law;

  • there is a serious risk to your safety or the safety of another person; or

  • safeguarding concerns require disclosure.

11. Communication with Your GP

With your consent, your GP will normally receive:

  • Assessment summaries.

  • Medication recommendations.

  • Follow-up letters.

Declining GP involvement may limit the Practice's ability to prescribe medication safely.

12. Medical Records

Clinical records are maintained securely in accordance with legal and professional requirements.

Patients may request access to their records in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.

13. Emergencies

The Practice is not an emergency or crisis service.

If you require urgent medical or psychiatric assistance, you should contact:

  • Your GP

  • NHS 111

  • Your local Mental Health Crisis Team

  • Your nearest Emergency Department

  • 999 if there is an immediate risk to life

Email must not be used for urgent medical advice.

14. Complaints

The Practice aims to provide high-quality care.

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the service, please refer to the Practice Complaints Policy, available on the website.

15. Limitation of Services

The Practice provides scheduled outpatient consultations only.

Services do not include:

  • Emergency assessments

  • Home visits

  • Crisis intervention

  • Inpatient care

  • Twenty-four-hour availability

16. Professional Standards

Care is provided in accordance with the standards expected of a consultant psychiatrist registered with the General Medical Council and practising in the United Kingdom.

17. Changes to These Terms

The Practice reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time.

The latest version will always be available on the Practice website.

18. Acceptance

By booking an appointment or receiving treatment, you confirm that you:

  • Have read and understood these Terms and Conditions.

  • Agree to the Practice's Fees Schedule and Cancellation Policy.

  • Consent to assessment and treatment in accordance with the Practice's Consent Policy.
