Perinatal psychiatry is a subspeciality within Adult Psychiatry. A perinatal psychiatrist has specialist expertise in diagnosing and treating mental health difficulties presenting in pregnancy and the postnatal period. A perinatal psychiatrist has expertise to provide advice on use of medication in pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. As a perinatal psychiatrist, I take a holistic approach to treatment. In some cases, medication can play a role alongside lifestyle changes, therapy and exercise to keep you well.

Your initial consultation is a comprehensive psychiatric assessment. Confidentiality is an essential part of psychiatric care. Information shared during your consultation will be treated with confidentiality, except in exceptional circumstances where there is a legal or professional duty to share information to protect you or someone else from serious harm. If this situation arises, I will discuss it with you wherever possible.
